BAŞKENT UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF MEDICINE
In response to Turkey’s need for high quality institutions of higher education, The Organ Transplant and Burns Treatment Foundation, which has been in operation since 1980, made the decision to turn its existing complexes into a university. In 1993, procedures were begun to establish Baskent University, with the aid of the Haberal education Foundation. The University was officially founded on January 13,1994.
Başkent University Faculty of Medicine was established at the same year. Although the postgraduate program was started in the same year, the undergraduate training was established in the Academic Year of 1998-1999. Up to the end of 2009 there are 214 graduates who are training and working at different universities and training different hospitals of Turkey.
At Baskent University Faculty of Medicine the number of full-time academic staff continuously increased to provide a higher quality education to students in small groups.
The language of education in our Faculty is Turkish. However, medical English education is mandatory part of the curriculum.
High technology of medical equipment, significant contributions to research, and dynamic academic staff have made this Faculty a successful higher medical institution. The main purpose of the Baskent University Faculty of Medicine is to educate a generation of young research-minded, scientifically oriented, competitive, modern and successful doctors who know how to reach and use the current medical knowledge. The graduates are sensitive to national and international issues, are dynamic and inquisitive, and are knowledgeable in the areas of health, humanities, environment, and technology. Education, training, research and health activities are carried out at the Bağlıca Campus and at the University's Practice and Research Centers and hospitals in Ankara and five different locations ( İstanbul, Adana, İzmir, Konya and Alanya ) in the country.
The faculty is composed of three sections as Basic Medical Sciences; Surgical Sciences; and Medical Sciences. Each section is made up of departments and divisions, as listed below. Junior staff below the rank of instructor are not included.
